Transitioning to Secondary: info sessions
After group 7 children at OIS will move onto secondary education, an exciting new chapter in these young people’s lives. To help with choosing the right school for your child, OIS organises two information sessions for parents to find out more.
We have organised two events, each focusing on different educational systems. We therefore highly recommend parents to attend both sessions to fully understand the possibilities available to you and your child.
These sessions are probably most suitable for parents of group 5-7, but all parents are welcome to attend.
- 16 November (5pm-7pm): Info session about the bilingual programme at Haarlemmermeer Lyceum
- 23 November (5pm-7pm): Info session about International Secondary Education offering the International Baccalaureate Curriculum (IB) a follow up from the International Primary Curriculum we offer at OIS. Three international schools will be present;
- International School Haarlem
- International School Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest
- Amsterdam International Community School
Both sessions are held at Haarlemmermeer Lyceum. Dates and address details are already included in the Parro calendar. You have the option to RSVP in the calendar, please do so in order for us to get an understanding how many parents are interested to attend the sessions.
International Education System – Secondary International Schools
In International IB (international Baccalaureate) World schools, students follow the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The IB Middle Years programme is for students 11-16, and is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. It comprises of eight subject groups providing a broad balanced education for early adopters.
After successfully completing this five-year programme with an MYP certificate, students enrol in either the Diploma Programme (DP) or Careers-related Programme (CP).
Haarlemmermeer Lyceum – Bilingual Department
Offering a bilingual programme at three different levels (mavo (preparatory secondary vocational education, havo (senior general secondary education) and vwo (university preparation education). The school has a separate programme for non-Dutch speakers. Students enrol in a Dutch as a second language programme (NT2). It offers a combined educational programme of the Dutch national curriculum at the same level as students who do their education solely in Dutch. Bilingual students also do an English IB-language exam, which is recognised all over the world.
Advisory procedure transition to Haarlemmermeer Lyceum – bilingual department
For application to Haarlemmermeer Lyceum, our advisory procedure starts in group 5, with conversations about length of stay in the Netherlands, future plans and the best fit for your child. With the final advice being given halfway through group 7. The advice is based on a number of different areas of learning.
More information and FAQ’s
We have put together a document clearly explaining our Secondary international and Dutch education systems and the overall advisory procedure. This also includes a number of FAQs that we have collated over the years from parents. We recommend all parents to please read this information ahead of coming to the sessions in November.
