On the Move! Milepost 1 Explores Travel and Transport

Milepost 1 students at OIS have been on an exciting learning journey through the IPC unit "A to B," where they explored different modes of transport. From cars and trains to bicycles  and boats, the children have discovered how people and goods move around the world. This engaging topic allowed them to develop curiosity, creativity, and an understanding of transport in the past, present, and future.

Exploring the World of Transport

Throughout the unit, students learned about the various ways we travel, both locally and globally. They explored transport used in different countries, compared modern and historical travel methods, and even created their own models of vehicles. From designing futuristic cars to drawing maps of their own journeys, the children engaged in hands-on activities that deepened their understanding of the topic. They are now learning how lines and colours can show movement and how art can have a purpose, like showing speed in transport.

“I loved throwing paper aeroplanes and seeing how far they flew, just like aeroplanes! “said one enthusiastic student.

To bring learning to life, students took part in interactive experiences, including a transport-themed role-play area where they became pilots, bus drivers, and train conductors. They also explored how different forms of travel impact the environment and their own health and wellbeing.

“Cars make a lot of smoke, but bikes are better for the planet and our bodies!” one student observed during a class discussion on transport.

Students showcased their creativity by designing their dream vehicles, and sharing their personal travel experiences. In art they will make a piece of work showing movement using lines. These projects are and will be, proudly displayed in the classroom, showing the fantastic learning journey of the children.

The “A to B” unit has been a wonderful way for students to learn about the world around them. Through discussions, creative projects, and hands-on activities, they have developed a strong understanding of travel and transport. As this unit comes to a close, students are now looking forward to their next adventure in learning ‘Seeing the Light’.
