New Year Message from the Student Council
Happy New Year from the Student Council (SC) at Optimist International School! We’re super excited to kick off 2025 and share some of the awesome things we’ve been working on with you.
What is the Student Council?
The SC is a group of students from Group 2 to 8 who are elected every year to represent all our voices. Together, we meet once a month to share ideas, solve problems, and make the school an even better place. Sara from 7 INT says, “It’s really nice to be in the council because we can help make changes and see that what students say actually matters. Plus, I get to meet new people and work with my friends!”
What Have We Been Up To?
This year, we’ve already started working on some cool projects:
- Playground Fun: We’re looking into ways to make the playground better for everyone.
- Buddy Reading: Bringing students together to read is a favorite SC project. SC members are sharing the idea with their classes to get more students involved.
- Clean and Tidy School: The SC came up with fun ways to keep the school clean, like competitions between classes and having hallway monitors.
And that’s not all!
We’re also working on ideas like adding more books to the library (including comics!) and bringing back the Healthy School Breakfast next year because everyone loved it.
A Special New Year Message
To celebrate the start of 2025, we created a special photo featuring all the SC members holding boards with “Happy New Year” written in their own languages. This picture represents the diversity and unity of our school community—it’s a fun way to show how many different cultures are part of OIS!
Why Does the SC Matter?
Being part of the SC is about making sure every student has a say. Sara explained, “It feels good when students bring up ideas, and we can make them happen. Like when someone in our class wanted the chairs to be less cold, and we made sure the teachers heard about it. Seeing those small changes makes a big difference!”
What’s Next?
We’ve got lots of exciting things coming up, like planning for International Culture Day and maybe even starting some new traditions like school trips abroad for upper primary students. Sara added, “I think it’s great that we can try new ideas and make the school even more fun for everyone!”
Got an Idea?
If you’re a student and have an idea for the SC, talk to one of us! We’re here to make sure your voice is heard. Let’s make this year amazing together.
Happy New Year from all of us in the Student Council!
