Handmade Ancient Headdresses that Dazzle
P2 students created Ancient Egyptian and Sumerian headdresses and crowns as part of an Art Task in our current IPC unit Temples, Tombs and Treasures and the results were spectacular!

Why were crowns and headdresses used?
In ancient Egypt, crowns and headdresses were used:
- To show that someone was powerful
- To make pictures of gods and rulers
- For religious ceremonies
Another interesting fact is that different headdresses were used for different occasions and were linked to different gods and goddesses.
Our learning goal was to be able to select and record relevant information including multiple sources. The students explored a variety of headdresses and crowns shown in Ancient Egyptian Art through different sources, digitally as well as through books and posters. Then they selected which headdress they wished to create, and after making a ‘Headdress Plan’ they proceeded with developing their art.
It’s been so inspiring to combine History, Art and ICT for our learning, that some of us are finding really hard to stop wearing our creations with pride!
An opportunity to show their stunning creations
It’s been amazing to witness the MP2 students ‘diving’ into the world of Ancient Egypt and Sumer and becoming such engaged researchers and headdresses’ artists.
Group 5 is going to present the students’ headdresses and crowns as part of the learning celebration coming up next, so parents will have the opportunity to view these stunning creations up close.
