Checkmate! Our Young Chess Masters Shine in Haarlem

What do you get when you mix strategy, focus, and a whole lot of fun? A fantastic day at the Basisscholen Chess Tournament in Haarlem!

On Sunday, March 9th, our Optimist International School chess team—Seyan, Dhriti, Yuvaan, and Shikhar—took their seats at the board, ready to think three moves ahead. Seven intense rounds later, their determination and skill paid off, securing an impressive 7th place overall!

Beyond the tournament itself, the event offered opportunities for players to analyze their games, solve chess puzzles, and even take a guided tour of De Koepel, led by a former prison guard. The atmosphere was filled with concentration, excitement, and camaraderie, making it a memorable day for the students and parents.

A special thank you to Keerthi Sane for organizing and supporting the team throughout the tournament, and congratulations to our players for their fantastic achievement. We look forward to seeing them continue to grow in their chess journey!

We can’t wait to see where their chess journey takes them next—perhaps to an even higher ranking next year!
