Becoming artists: exploring patterns!

We are now settled into school and getting back into our learning routine. Our first IPC unit has started, and we are learning to become artists in MP1!

Pattern scavenger hunt

For the start of this unit, we used iPads to take photos and observe art patterns in our local environment. We discovered that art is everywhere! In groups, we went on a “pattern hunt” to find interesting patterns, this could be anything! Our dedicated detectives located patterns on walls, under tables, between shelves, anything that caught their attention. Once evidence was collected they brought these ideas back to the classroom, where the fun could begin.

Patterns are often repetitive but have the ability to be unique, meaning you could look at them forever and see something new! On our quests to becoming artists we are working on recreating different types of patterns ourselves. Having conducted our research and investigation in the real world, we concluded there are many types of patterns which we could recreate. Patterns such as tessellation (patterns that fit together with no gaps), symmetry (where two sides are the same), and repeating patterns. Each of us is interpreting these patterns in our own unique way. Through exploring art, we are learning to express ourselves on paper, and bring out own visions to life!
