English as an Additional Language (EAL)
We celebrate our multicultural student body and encourage our pupils to continue developing their proficiency in their mother tongue! However the language of instruction at OIS is English.
For pupils who are Beginner English speakers, we provide English as an Additional Language, or EAL, support. EAL assistants are there to provide scaffolded language instruction, and help pupils communicate and access the learning while taking part in the same lessons as their classmates. This ensures each child is equally challenged through the curriculum content despite the language barrier.
